After a busy Spring and Summer, an additional 4 healthcare facilities have been added to the EPA’s Green Healthcare Programme. Waste surveys were carried out at each of these facilities. This included food waste, general waste and clinical risk waste surveys.
In addition, revisits to many of the facilities participating in 2010 have been carried out. Work plans have been developed with these hospitals for the key areas of waste generation for the individual sites, as identified by the 2010 surveys. Some additional work has already been carried out with some of these hospitals, for example:
- A review of bin locations to increase recyclables collection in a large acute facility.
- Examining the quantities and character of clinical waste arising for individual procedures in theatre in an acute hospital.
